Global North panic about “border crises” ignores the reality that imperialism has driven the mass relocation of millions of people for centuries, through settler-colonialism, the transatlantic slave trade, and import of indentured labourers. Today’s borders exist to enforce the limitations on who has the freedom to stay and the freedom to move.
