- fiction etc scratchpads: general notes on individual works—highly informal
- lit notes (unprocessed): transcriptions and blockquotes from nonfiction sources i want to reference later
- arguments: hypotheses, claims, observations. reasonably atomic.
- questions: gut feelings, curiosities, things to be researched later, putting pins in ideas to be thought-through
- thematic: grouping related concepts/arguments/questions, making connections
